| Council minutes refer on 9 June 1931 to the road connecting Selbourne Road and Waller Avenue. Part was known as Wingate Road and part Tomlinson Avenue. It was resolved to call the whole length of the road Tomlinson Avenue. On 1 Sep 1931 it was noted that an appeal to the justices decided that the Wingate Road name should be retained.
