Cumberland Gate in london was named after the battle of Culloden in 1746 in honour of Prince William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland (1721 – 1765), brother of George III. Alternatively, John Cumberland – Luton cattle dealer (Scene Again) – street named too early for him but may be for his family. |
